The two-day Alto Garda race got off to a great start with the two long trials.
In the 50km success of Mattia Gianola, Eva Maria Sperger, Marco Ghelfi, Daniela Rota won the 24km.

Record numbers for Asics Malcesine Baldo Trail.
The third edition registered 826 entrants from 29 nations; in detail 209 on the 50 km, 383 on the 24 and 234 on the 16 km short. Of these, 25% are women and 13% are foreigners. Important numbers for an increasingly international race with an important growth trend of +200 athletes compared to the previous edition.

MATTIA GIANOLA & EVA MARIA SPERGER DOMINATE ON THE LONG RUN

Good first for Lecco-born Mattia Gianola and German Eva Maria Sperger, who literally put on a show in their debut on the border paths between Veneto and Trentino.
Test bench 50 very technical kilometers that led the competitors to overcome 3,355 meters of elevation gain only with spectacular passages to Monte Altissimo and Monte Baldo, before the long dive to Malcesine.

Ranking in hand, the Premanese from Team Valtellina overcame the odds in 5h17’16” ahead of the two South Tyrolean athletes Luca Pescollderungg (5h29’56”) and Georg Piazza (5h33’39”).
Behind them, Francesco Lorenzi and Jacopo Troiano completed the day’s top five.

In the women’s real triumphal ride for German Eva Maria Sperger who finished in 6h33’55” ahead of Francesca Pretto (7h14’11”) and Milena Pasin (7h38’53”).
Cristina Filippini 4th and Evelyne Lachner 5th also did well.

MARCO GHELFI & DANIELA ROTA ON THE 24K

Adopted Trevisan Marco Ghelfi and Daniela Rota from Bergamo placed their mark on the roll of honor on the medium course by earning first place with a tightrope walk downhill.
Chronometer in hand, Ghelfi crossed the finish line in 2h50’17” trimming 2’19” from Isaia Iori who in the uphill phase seemed uncatchable.
On the podium with them also Davide Delladdio at +3’38”.
Francesco Rigodanza 4th and Alessandro Civitiello 5th also did well.

On the women’s side, Orobica skyrunner Daniela Rota engaged the turbo on the long descent of Monte Baldo, presenting herself under the finish line in 3h20’49”.
Second place for the young Maddalena Somà who in the second part of the race saw her dreams of glory fade due to some physical aches and pains (3h25’56”).
Third came Edeltraud Thaler (3h27’49”) who in order kept behind Ingrid Demega and Cornelia Paulmichl.

GRAND FINALE TOMORROW WITH THE 16KM SHORT

The ASICS Malcesine Baldo Trail program will conclude tomorrow with the 16-kilometer “Short” race; a spectacular and very fast race that, like its big sisters, will start and finish on the Malcesine lakefront.
The course will be mostly on trails and dirt roads halfway up the mountainside with an elevation gain of only 1185 meters. CLICK HERE for the rankings!!!
