Filed with Saturday’s two long trials of 50 and 24 kilometers, won by Mattia Gianola, Eva Maria Sperger and Marco Ghelfi, Daniela Rota, respectively, this morning from the lakeside 234 started in the shorter but no less spectacular race.

Numbers in hand, the third edition of the beautiful running event drawn in the border mountains between Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige registered 826 entries from 29 nations; in detail 209 on the 50 km, 383 on the 24 and 234 on the 16 km short. Of these, 25% are women and 13% are foreigners. Important numbers for an increasingly international race with an important growth trend of +200 athletes compared to the previous edition.

the “Short” trial had a distance of 16 kilometers with 1185 m d+. The athletes climbed up to a maximum altitude of 700 meters and passed near the middle station of the Monte Baldo cable car before plunging headlong toward the finish line in Malcesine. In the men’s race it was a tussle until Luca Bertoldo from Vicenza took the lead by holding the lead until the finish line. For him success of the day in 1h30’21”. Second place for Kevin Maniotti (1h31’04”) and third for Spaniard Juan Sebastian Cortes (1h34’06”).

In the women’s race solo by South Tyrolean Lena Zingerle who crossed the finish line in 1h50’24” , edging out Sara Casari (1h54’40”) and Ioana Lucaci (1h55’13”).

“The balance is definitely positive,” said Claudio Arduini, “but we are aware that we still have important margins for growth. We close this third edition with a +30% increase in registrations, which gives us hope. Women have increased, there has been a huge growth in the number of foreigners, who are almost 15% of the total. This is also thanks to a beautiful location and the organizational passion we put into it. The goal is to reach triple digits as soon as possible.”

From the organizing committee also several thanks: “The first thank you goes to the municipal administration of Malcesine, especially to Christian Chincarini who four years ago had the insight to involve us in the organization of this race. Many thanks also to the administration of Brentonico and Avio who spent so much on the Trentino side of the race to put together groups of volunteers who gave us a big hand. I would not forget ASICS, having such a prestigious brand as our main sponsor is a source of pride and satisfaction for us. Last and most important thanks to all those who worked behind the scenes; they are the beating heart of this event. Now let’s enjoy the success of this third edition, renewing as of now the appointment for the fourth one. Keep yourselves free for the first weekend of May 2025. We look forward to seeing you in Malcesine from May 3 to 4.”
