Grand finale, this morning, with the short race

The weekend of the Asics Malcesine Baldo Trail concluded with the 16-kilometer “Short” trial. Patrick Bazzoli (S.A. Valchirie) won the men’s event while Andrea Schweigkofler (Sportclub Merano) dominated the women’s.

This morning in Malcesine a few meters from the shores of the lake, the race that closed the long weekend of the Asics Malcesine Baldo Trail got underway. The “Short” trial had a distance of 16 kilometers with 1185 m d+. The athletes climbed up to a maximum altitude of 700 meters and passed near the middle station of the Monte Baldo cable car before plunging headlong toward the finish line in Malcesine.

In the men’s race it was Patrick Bazzoli who immediately took the lead. The long snake of pursuers was led by Denny Ghidotti, Roberto Antonelli and Marco Vecchi. The pace was very high from the start with Patrick Bazzoli wanting at all costs not to lose the lead. Behind him, Denny Ghidotti and Roberto Antonelli tried hard to close the gap on the escapee. After refreshment near the middle station of the Mount Bado cable car Ghidotti had closed the gap, and the race was decided by the final descent to Malcesine.

In the women’s race Andrea Schweigkofler made it clear from the start what her intentions were by taking the lead, behind her Tina Fischl, Elisa Brocard and Elisa Adorini.

Returning to the men’s race Patrick Bazzoli crosses the finish line with a time of 1h30’41”, Ghidotti in the final descent fails to make at the pace of the winner and accusing a delay of 1’36” confirms the second position. Roberto Antonelli was third with a time of 1h32’59”. In fourth and fifth place were Marco Vecchi and Marco Donina.

In the pink race Andrea Schweigkofler arrived in Malcesine stopping the stopwatch with a time of 1h46’44”, behind her in second place was Germany’s Tina Fischl. Italian cross-country skier Elisa Brocard, ambassador of the ASICS FrontRunner team, took the third step of the podium with a time of 1h54’51”. Elisa Adorini and Sara Taiocchi are fourth and fifth, respectively.

The second edition of the Asics Malcesine Baldo Trail, four spectacular races that brought more than 700 runners to experience the most beautiful corners of Mount Baldo and Alto Garda, goes into the archives.

With the bowls stopped, it’s time to take stock for Claudio Arduini, coordinator of the event: “We are very happy. The numbers of participants are growing, but what we were most pleased with were the positive comments from the athletes who crossed the finish line. Now we have to start thinking about the next edition, the pasta party and happy hour added festive notes to the race and for next year we already have some surprises in the pipeline. A special thanks I must give to the municipalities of Malcesine, Brentonico and Avio; not forgetting all the associations that helped us during these three days.”

The long weekend in Malcesine had opened with the Vertical trial won by Sergio Bonaldi with a time of 39’43” and in the women’s field by Anna Sbalchiero.

While Saturday morning in the 50-kilometer race Georg Piazza and Chiara Boggio won. Also on Saturday in the shorter 24-kilometer race victory went to Lorenzo Beltrami and Veronica Maran.

The date is already set for May 3-4-5, 2024.
