VRM TEAM A.S.D. in collaboration with the municipalities of Malcesine, Avio and Brentonico organises the second edition of the MALCESINE BALDO TRAIL – 16k SHORT trail running event included in the Fidal National Calendar.

Start at 10.00 a.m.

Route

The race takes place mainly on gravel roads for about 16 km with an altitude difference of 1.185 metres.

Participation requirements

According to the provisions of the “Rules for the Organization of Non-Stadia Events” issued by the FIDAL, athletes registered in Italy may participate limited to persons 18 years of age and older (thousandth of age) who meet one of the following requirements

  • Athletes registered for 2026 with clubs affiliated to FIDAL
  • Italian and foreign Athletes in possession of Runcard (valid as sports insurance and permission to compete) and Athletes registered for a Sports Promotion Body (Sect. Athletics), in possession of Runcard-EPS and Runcard Trail, limited to persons from 20 years of age in possession of a valid medical certificate of specific agonistic fitness for athletics, which must be compulsorily delivered, also digitally, to the organizing companies of each event.
  • Italian/foreigner athletes not registered in Italy holding memberships of clubs affiliated with Foreign Athletics Federations recognized by World Athletics valid for 2026. At the time of registration, they must alternatively submit self-certification of possession of the World Athletics recognized card. The self-certification should then, however, be signed in original at the time of bib pick-up.

Foreign athletes who are non-members and non-residents of Italy can register for the NON-competitive race. This option is not valid for athletes residing in Italy. They will be placed in an alphabetical order of arrival separate from the rankings of the competitive event and will not be eligible for in-kind prizes, cash, value vouchers, bonuses, engagements, expense reimbursements of any kind.
ITRA and UTMB points will still be recognized.
A self-certification will be requested at the time of registration.

Registrations

Registration is open from Nov. 2, 2025, to April 28, 2026, can be done online through endu.net

Registration is considered effective and confirmed when all the information requested in the registration form is provided correctly and payment is made, confirmed and accepted by the organization.

Registration Fees

The registration fees are staggered as follows:

  • November 2 to November 30, 2025 – €18.00
  • December 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026 – €23.00
  • February 1 to March 15, 2026 – €26.00
  • March 16 to April 28, 2026 – €30.00

Refund of registration fees

There is no refund of the registration fee under any circumstances.
It is possible to transfer one’s already purchased Bib, no later than 20.04.2026.
In this case, the taking over competitor will have to pay the secretariat fee of 10 euros.

Event cancellation due to health reasons

In case the event cannot be held on the date of May 3, 2026, the organization plans to move it to the 2027 edition free of charge.

Participation in the “I don’t litter” campaign

Athletes should behave in a way that respects the natural environment, especially avoiding littering, near refreshments and along the entire route.

Chest Pickup

The race number can be collected in Malcesine, at the event secretariat, on presentation of the confirmation letter and a photo ID:

  • Friday, 1 May, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (for participants in all distances)
  • Saturday, May 2 from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. (for 26K and 52K registrants) and from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ( for 16k registrants)
  • Sunday, 3 May, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (for those registered for the 16K)

Times and locations of race number collection are subject to change and will be published in the updated event programme on this website.

Bib

The starting number is given in sequential order.

The bib number has a different colour to indicate the race distance.

The breastplate must be worn on the chest and be made visible in its entirety at all times throughout the race. It must be placed over all clothing and under no circumstances fixed anywhere else, under penalty of disqualification.

A chip is affixed to the bib, which cannot be removed in any way.

Gathering

Before the start, each runner must pass through the entrance gate to the closed start zone.

f necessary, the participants will be divided into starting groups according to the criteria set by the organising committee.

LOCKER ROOMS AND SHOWERS ARE PROVIDED.

PICKUP AND DELIVERY SERVICE OF PERSONAL GARMENT BAGS IS PROVIDED

The event will be held in all weather conditions.

Refreshments on the route

The refreshment points will be supplied with drinking water and disposable products.

No plastic cups will be available at the refreshment points, runners must bring their own glass or other suitable container to drink from.

Refreshments at the end

After arrival there will be delivery of a bag containing water and solids.

Running Rules

By registering, the runner signs a commitment to carry all the mandatory equipment listed below throughout the race, under penalty of disqualification. Mandatory materials may be checked at bib pickup, at the start and/or at surprise locations along the course and at the finish.

Required materials:

  • personal glass with a minimum capacity of 150 cc (water bottle if with a wide cap is valid as a glass): NO GLASSES ARE PROVIDED AT REFRESHMENTS!
  • Competition backpack or Belt to carry mandatory equipment
  • Thermal sheeting
  • Waterproof jacket (in case of heavy rain forecast with 20k water column seal)
  • Whistle
  • Cell phone
  • Adequate water supply (minimum 1 liter )
  • suitable footwear for running on mountain terrain (rocks, stones, gravel)
  • energy bars or solid foods

Material recommended depending on the weather

  • cap or bandanna
  • gloves
  • Sun glasses
  • sun protection cream
  • long-sleeved thermal shirt
  • third layer (winter jacket) in case of particularly cold weather
  • mineral salts

the use of sticks is allowed

Maximum time and time barriers

The maximum time for the 16k race is 4 hours and 30 minutes

An intermediate chronometric control point is foreseen, fixed on the basis of the overall distance and the logistical characteristics of the race track. Athletes who do not pass the checkpoint within the time limit will be considered to have dropped out of the race and will be taken back to the start/finish point by the organising committee.

The participant who is eliminated from the race and continues to run nevertheless assumes full responsibility for the resulting consequences.

In case of bad weather conditions and/or for safety reasons, the organisation reserves the right to interrupt the race in progress, to postpone the start, to change the course, to change the time limits or to cancel the race without prior notice.

Dropouts and returns

In case of abandonment of the race along the course, the competitor is obliged to report his or her abandonment by registering as withdrawn at the nearest checkpoint.

The organisation will take care of the return transport of the runners from the checkpoint to the finish, also with the help of the Monte Baldo cable car.

Retreatants are not guaranteed to return outside the checkpoints except in case of injury.

A “broom service” is planned that will walk the course following the last competitor in the race, so as to be of help to retreatants and prevent any injured people from being left unassisted.

Security and medical care

Ambulances, civil defense and doctors will be on the ground.

Rescue posts are intended to bring assistance to all persons in distress by the organization’s own means or through contracted organizations.

Medical officials are empowered to suspend competitors deemed unfit to continue the race.

Rescuers are empowered to evacuate riders judged to be in danger by all means at their convenience.

A runner who appeals to a doctor or EMT effectively submits to his or her authority and agrees to abide by his or her decisions.

Timekeeping

Timing is done by chip attached to the personal bib.

The company in charge is EvoData

Timing is done in gun time. Real time is also provided i.e. by noting the interval in which the competitor crossed the starting line and reaches the finishing line, regardless of the starting time.

Rankings and Awards

All participants will be provided with chips installed in the bib.

The timing service will be responsible for drawing up the overall men’s and women’s overall standings.

The rankings will be visible on the endu.net website

After the finish each runner will be given a “Finisher” medal.

No printouts of the results will be displayed.

Awards

The awards ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. No cash prizes are provided.

Prizes cannot be combined.

Disqualifications

The Competition Jury may pronounce the disqualification of a competitor in case of a serious breach of the rules.

Changes to the route or time barriers – Cancellation of the race

The organization reserves the right to change the route or the location of aid and refreshment posts at any time without prior notice. In the event of adverse weather conditions or for other reasons beyond the control of the organization and such as to endanger the safety of the competitors, the start may be postponed or canceled, the course may be modified and shortened, and the race may be stopped at any point on the course. The above changes will be taken by the Jury, also after hearing the opinion of the safety officers and medical team. Modification, suspension or cancellation of the race will not entitle competitors to any refund of the entry fee.

Security and medical care

The organization takes out liability insurance for the entire period of the trial.

Participation takes place under the full responsibility of the competitors, who waive all recourse against the organizers in case of damages and further consequences that may arise as a result of the race.

At the time of registration, the runner must sign a liability waiver.

The runner acknowledges that he or she should not register and participate if not medically fit and especially if not athletically prepared.

Image Right

By registering, competitors authorize the organization to use free of charge, without territorial or time limits, still and moving images of them while participating in the race.

Updates and final warnings

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to modify these regulations at any time for reasons it deems appropriate for the better organization of the race, after giving notice and obtaining approval from FIDAL.

For all matters not provided for in these regulations, the FIDAL and G.G.G. technical statutory regulations apply.

All changes of performances, places and times will be duly communicated to the registered athletes or published on the website https://malcesinebaldotrail.run

In addition, documentation containing essential information for taking part in the race will be delivered by the organization along with the bib.
